Clairemont/Bay Park was developed during the post-WWII building boom of the 1950’s. Originally named “The Village Within a City”, it was renamed Clairemont after the wife of Carlos Tavares, Marjorie Claire. Primarily developed by Lou Burgener and Carlos Tavares, they introduced a new concept in community living with winding streets and scenic view lots overlooking the canyons and bluffs above Mission Bay.
Considered the largest subdivision in San Diego, it was developed in a Northerly direction which produced North Clairemont which expanded Eastward to I-805 and North to San Clemente Canyon and Highway 52. Bay Park which is located on the West side of Clairemont is bordered on the West by I-5 and Mission Bay Park and South by I-8 and Mission Valley. Not only is Clairemont considered to be the most temperate in terms of climate , it also is known for Tecolote Canyon, a public golf course, several large shopping centers and its easy access to all freeways.
Educationally , it is part of the San Diego Unified School District and includes many elementary schools and middle schools, 2 high schools and a number of private schools such as the Maria Montessori Schools, Horizon Christian School, Islamic School of San Diego, and The Child’s Primary School.
